Halloween and Free tickets!

The new Miami Weekly Yelp just came out today with tons of stuff to do for Halloween:

“It’s that time of the year, ghouls and boys – when we fill our sugary caloric voids with candy corn, ladies show off their naughty sides, and everything’s just a tad bit more spooktacular. Halloween is here, folks, but don’t start calling the Ghostbusters just yet; this Weekly’s got some costume tricks and party treats to get you ready for some of the creepiest Hallows’ Eve broohahas in Miami. Bwahaha!”

Amongst the higlighted parties on the calendar:
The Most Interesting Show in the World at Vagabond
1920’s Prohibition Party at Florida Room
Ghosts of Miami Cemetery Tour
Rocky Horror Picture Show at Colony Theater
more

You can even get free tickets to Gen Art’s REVERB show on Wednesday, Oct 29th. For details on the FREE-bies check out the Weekly or the Calendar listing for the email address.
Best Dive Bars in Miami

The Weekly Yelp has all the insider info on your favorite dive bars in Miami.

Excerpt:

“What could make a classic Miami dive even better? How ’bout a walk-up window? Arturo M digs Fox’s window service and suggests venturing into this dark, dank lounge on Tuesday nights for their prime rib dinner special and 2-for-1 drink specials. For tried-and-true dive bar lover Christine A, her old standby is Barracuda; she adores “‘Cuda’s cheap beer, crazy crowd, and beer pong.” Oh yeah, that’s gonna hurt in the morning! Finally Marcos M’s well-kept secret dive, the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), is a gem for free pool, cheap drinks, and no pretense. We’ll pound a few to that!”

Classic Miami History Quiz

July 30, 2008 in Miami, Miami history | Tags: Miami, Miami history | No comments

Miami is my hometown, but this isn’t the city I grew up in… Miami changes all the time and natives love her through the booms and busts.

I found a very interesting webpage with Classic Miami Trivia. This quiz is a perfect example of how Miami is constantly changing.

Here is a sample of the easy ones:
1. What was called “The road to nowhere” in the 1970s?
5. Name the famous comedian that helped Miami by doing a live network TV program from here.
6. Name the BBQ landmark that burned to the ground in 1972 and was rebuilt.
13. Where was the original location for Tamiami Airport?
17. Which establishment in the City of Miami has liquor license #1 and was issued before prohibition?
28. Where did the big rotating globe in the lobby of the Miami Museum of Science come from?

And for the answers to these questions and to view more answers click here.
